£32,236 to £48,677

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Petroleum Economics to the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) in the School of Energy, Geoscience Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) at Heriot-Watt University (HWU).

The post holder will be expected to make excellent contributions to the teaching and research activities within IPE in the field of petroleum economics and project management. The successful applicant will hold a PhD degree in a subject related to economics and project management in the oil and gas industry, or will be able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience. Candidates with industry experience are particularly welcome to apply. While this position will be open to candidates who have experience in all aspects of petroleum economics, we particularly welcome applications from candidates who have a background in one of the following areas:

  • Economics and project management in the oil and gas industry
  • Economics of low-carbon energy production
  • Economics of energy transition

The successful candidate will be an excellent team player who has the capability to make positive contributions to teaching on IPE’s MSc programmes, attract external funding, author high-quality publications, develop an independent research team, and can work in close collaboration with other disciplines (internally and externally) relevant to the oil and gas industry.

While this position is normally based on a full-time basis, a part-time appointment with a teaching focus could be negotiated under particular circumstances.

The successful candidate will have a first degree in a cognate discipline and a PhD in a subject related to economics and project management in the oil and gas industry or can demonstrate equivalent (industry) experience.
