The department of Macro, International and Labor Economics (MILE) Economics at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University is committed to high quality research and education. Our goal is to combine academic rigor with real-world relevance and impact. The department invites talented and ambitious economists to apply for a tenure track position in Macroeconomics.

The Assistant Professor contributes to the department through delivering high quality research in the field of macroeconomics and is committed to collaborate with other researchers in the department and the school. The Assistant Professor teaches and coordinates courses in the area of macroeconomics in bachelor, in master, and in post-graduate programmes and contributes to the further development of the programmes. Education is performed within small groups according to the Problem Based Learning principle. We strive to excel in teaching and in innovative teaching methods. All teaching at SBE is in English.

Requirements

The applicant should hold a PhD degree in – quantitative – economics and has teaching and research expertise in the field of macroeconomics. Proven interest and expertise in monetary economics is an advantage. The department appreciates an open mind to multidisciplinary research, non-mainstream approaches to economic research and the ambition to combine rigor with relevance. The department is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates.

Conditions of Employment

Salary is competitive and ranges (depending on qualifications and experience) from EUR 3637 to EUR 5656 per month (12 monthly payments) for a full-time position. On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end of year allowance. Non-Dutch applicants may be eligible for favourable tax treatment. The selected candidate will in principle be appointed in a faculty-wide Tenure Track system of ten years of appointment.

Initially, candidates are employed on a temporary contract as assistant professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years into the appointment, candidates will be evaluated and if the development goals have been met, promoted to assistant professor (level 1) on a permanent contract. The evaluation can be brought forward if criteria are met earlier. On the candidate’s request the evaluation can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave or chronic illness.
