Opportunities

The Department of Economics at the University of Exeter Business School is seeking to recruit to multiple posts at the Associate and Full Professor level. This hiring forms part of a continued expansion and investment into Economics at the University of Exeter.

Preference will be given to researchers in applied economics with strong empirical skills. We are particularly interested in candidates specialising in any of the following fields:

  • Applied Econometrics
  • Behavioural Economics
  • Development Economics
  • Family Economics
  • Financial Economics & Banking
  • Health Economics
  • Human Capital
  • Macroeconomics
  • Policy Evaluation
  • Welfare Economics

Methodologically, we especially welcome econometric, reduced-form, semi-structural or fully structural applied approaches as well as advanced programming skills using data that is experimental, quasi-experimental, observational (including administrative, spatial and GIS) data or considered "big data" (including earth observation/satellite data, network and social media data).

Candidates must have an outstanding track record in publishing research, teaching and attracting research grants.

About you

You will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Economics or related areas and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant field of research
  • Be an expert in your academic field with an international reputation, as evidenced by research publications, sustained funding as principal investigator and PhD supervision as well as other esteem indicators
  • A supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for developing and delivering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development
  • Strong research leadership
  • A track record in ABS four-star refereed publications and success in significant grant capture
  • Relationships with external organisations and funders/ and knowledge and experience of key sectors or business
  • Strong connections with business, government and/or civil society organisations
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact

The academics in the Department of Economics are a dynamic and highly research active group with a strong tradition of interaction and collaboration among the faculty. Their research covers a broad spectrum of themes including behavioural and experimental economics, development economics, economic theory, environmental economics, public economics, macroeconomics and econometrics and has attracted funding from bodies such as the British Academy, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Her Majesty's Treasury (HMT), the Leverhulme Trust and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
