The Role:

S&P Global Market Intelligence, a premier sector-focused news and information provider, is looking for a Commodity Analyst focused on iron ore to join our Market Analysis team. In this dynamic role you will gather content relating to metal market supply and demand components, and macroeconomic and market developments, analyzing this data to produce insightful forward-looking research.

The Impact:

S&P Global Market Intelligence has a solid reputation as a premier sector-focused news and information provider. Our clients include a cross section of the broader Metals, Minerals and Mining sector from mining companies, traders, vendors, consultants, regulators/governments and all those that operate within the financial and commodities markets such as Investment Banks, Investment Managers, Hedge Funds, Brokers, etc. We are a multinational organization that has built a robust franchise on data collection and standardization, layering on proprietary news and research, employing analysts, economists and geologists that are well regarded within the sector.

The Career Opportunity:

In this role you will be responsible for developing existing reports and services ─particularly focused on the iron ore market ─ and helping us build new products. You will be a valuable member of our team and a “go to” source on current events in the industry, capable of writing and presenting your research. This role would be a great platform for you to add value and grow professionally.

The Team / The Business:

Our growing Market Analysis team provides in-depth expert insight into the metals and mining sector. Able to leverage off an unsurpassed level of experience, from worldwide exploration, development and production to strategic planning and acquisitions activity - this group delivers reliable, unbiased research and analysis drawn directly from extensive industry contacts, global news and other information sources. Our high-quality products and services help clients identify, benchmark and value new business opportunities, monitor competitors and market trends, and act on strategies more confidently and efficiently.

Our Hiring Manager says:

I'm looking for someone with a curious, logical and intellectual approach to analyzing and evaluating fundamental, macro and market information with the ability to formulate and express ─ both in writing and in person ─ an accurate, cohesive and credible outlook and view. You will enjoy working in a team environment contributing to broader goals and liaising with the wider metals and mining research group, but also be capable of independently developing existing services and building new areas of research".

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have experience in a metals analyst role, ideally with exposure to iron ore and/or stainless steel markets, and be educated to degree level or above. However candidate with a broader metals market coverage or exposure would also be considered. Experience in building supply/demand and price forecasting models will be advantageous.

Responsibilities: Including but not limited to:

  • Modelling end-sector supply/demand for the iron ore supply chain
  • Researching, analyzing and publishing commentary on topical events pertinent to iron ore markets
  • Regular publishing and production of price forecasts
  • Participation in business development activities and external representation as required, such as at conferences or client roadshows
  • Communication on and defense of your work to clients
  • Some business travel as required

Qualifications:

  • Established experience as an analyst in the commodities space, preferably with direct exposure to iron ore
  • Degree educated, for example including mining finance, engineering, chemical disciplines, economics or business

  • The following would be advantageous but not required:
  • Experience with VBA and/or SQL programming language
