Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest.

Financial analysis is core to much of our work in regulation and competition. Our Finance specialists carry out work in all relevant regulatory finance areas for leading UK and European regulated utility companies, regulators, governments and investors. We are also experts in finance topics within the context of litigation, arbitration and anti-trust cases.

We are currently looking for an exceptional candidate to join our Finance practice. As a finance specialist at Frontier you can expect to work in project teams across the full range of our expertise for both private and public sector clients, and often in relation to high profile industry issues such as price controls in regulated utilities, transaction support and due diligence, international litigation and arbitration and competition market investigations. Project work is likely to be predominantly UK based, but you can also expect to be part of project teams working for clients across Europe, and some travel may be required.

Some recent work of the practice includes:

  • Supporting international airport operators, UK water companies and UK and European energy network companies, regulators and industry bodies – in particular in the estimation of the cost of capital, financeability and allowed returns;
  • Investment advice on a range of transactions across Europe for infrastructure and utility assets, including renewable technologies; and
  • Expert witness reports on damage estimation in State aid cases.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying how the relevant economic framework will address the case in hand.
  • Engaging professionally with clients; actively listening and understanding their perspective and needs.
  • Identifying how the relevant economic/financial framework will address the case in hand.
  • Applying relevant core economic/finance theory and empirical techniques across a range of projects.
  • Delivering high quality technical work by applying best practice.
  • Identifying key results from analysis (that will prove or disprove key hypotheses).
  • Adapting written work to the target audience in terms of style and level of information.
  • Supporting peers in preparing well structured, clear, client deliverables.

In addition to stimulating and thought-provoking project work, we offer numerous benefits to support you inside and outside of work. All employees have access to numerous Learning & Development opportunities including ongoing Career Development Reviews with the support of an allocated Mentor.

We understand the importance of work/life balance and offer flexible working arrangements including working from home. In addition we provide 28 days annual leave with the option to purchase an additional 10 days.

Frontier is entirely owned by its employees. As Shareholders, we encourage everyone to put forward their views. Not only do we influence how the company is run but we choose to distribute as much of our profits as is prudently possible through bonuses. In addition we offer a highly rewarding salary.

If you would like to become part of our team, we are interested in meeting candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Analysis & Problem solving skills: Economists who can accurately deliver work that has been scoped by others using a range of techniques.
  • Communication skills: Consultants who can communicate successfully and professionally to clients and colleagues.
  • Work Management skills: Organised individuals who understand their own and colleagues’ roles on projects consistently deliver work scoped by others.
  • Client relationship skills: An awareness of how to work professionally with clients in a range of situations.
  • - Contribution to Frontier values: A genuine interest in identifying and developing opportunities to make Frontier a better place to work.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for applying finance knowledge and techniques to solve real-world problems All candidates must have a Bachelors in Economics and a post-graduate degree in finance or a finance specialisation within an advanced economics course. Professional qualifications such as Chartered Accountancy or Chartered Financial Analyst are welcome although not essential. Previous experience in utility or infrastructure sectors is not essential.

Should you have any questions or would like any additional information please email Tara McCallum – recruitment@frontier-economics.com.

We are looking forward to receiving your application.
