Data Manager

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Ltd is an independent consultancy specialising in the application of health economic techniques to support pharmaceutical pricing, health technology assessment (HTA) and value assessment, reimbursement, and market access activities. Our team of over 80 researchers in the UK and Germany are experts in developing, testing and implementing disease models, analyses of clinical trial data, generating evidence from real-world clinical care, and systematic literature reviews and meta-analysis. Our clients are global pharmaceutical companies and our projects span across many disease and therapy areas.

Role and Responsibilities

HEOR is looking for a highly skilled, flexible and enthusiastic Data Manager to join us. They will work closely with the Data Science and Analytics team and Health Economics team to be responsible for project data from clinical trials and real-world healthcare, as well as data to support company operations. They will also be responsible for long-term strategic direction of data management at HEOR, keeping up to date with trends to drive forward innovation across the company. A range of database and programming skills will be needed to develop and deploy custom databases, undertake regular data processing and ongoing development and maintenance of databases/schemas. Knowledge about information security, data governance and quality assurance are essential.

Qualifications/Candidate requirements

Essential

• Degree in a scientific or health-related subject with high level of numeracy and analytical thinking.
• Strong skills in relational database development and administration (i.e. deployment and maintenance), data processing, and data tool development.
• Expert knowledge of database technologies (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server MySQL, Azure, Amazon RDS) and dashboard technologies (e.g. RStudio Connect, Tableau, PowerBI)
• Experienced in using R and other programming and database languages (e.g. Python, SQL, advanced Microsoft Excel using Visual Basic for Application, SAS).
• Experienced in setting up, configuring and managing common data environments (e.g. SharePoint).
• Experienced in working within a secure data environment.
• Experienced in manipulating and managing data from clinical trial datasets, electronic health records and/or biomedical datasets.
• Adopter of industry best practice toolchains.
• In-depth knowledge of data management and information security regulations and standards.

Desirable

• Qualification in information/records management.
• Certification in database administration (e.g. Microsoft MCSA certification)
• Relevant experience in a consultancy and/or healthcare, biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry.

Main job responsibilities

• Lead day to day operations of project and business data.
• Create, set up and maintain project databases.
• Act as the administrator for all data-based systems.
• Support development of programming specifications on projects.
• Advise on and contribute to multiple projects with competing timelines.
• Implement and improve quality control and data governance processes, tools and policies.
• Provide training and guidance on all aspects of data management to colleagues.
• Communicate complex concepts to colleagues, including cross-functional teams.
• Other duties reasonably required by HEOR Ltd.

Location

We have offices in Cardiff and Birmingham (with remote working at present). Permanent remote working will also be considered for the right person.
