What is the purpose of these roles?

We are currently seeking to grow the econometric skills within our regulation team as we prepare for the next price review with additional econometricians or similar skilled individuals. The team’s role is to provide insight and understanding into the delivery, operations and efficiency of our services, through the use of econometrics and statistical tools.

What makes this role unique?

As the largest water and wastewater company in Britain, we provide services across urban and rural communities covering more than 6 million households and businesses that represent around 15 million people and includes London, the highest density area of the country.

Working in a small team, but operating across the whole business and all operations, these new roles will be stimulating, challenging and hugely influential in how we develop as a business, support our customers and achieve a successful outcome at the next price review as the first step in achieving our longer term vision.

What will this role involve?

  • Provide high quality economic and econometric advice and analysis on a wide range of economic regulatory issues and communicate key findings to a wide range of audiences including senior managers and Executive Team.
  • Provide a source of economic expertise to assist the business in analysis of areas of complexity to ensure the business makes the right decisions based on robust quantitative analysis of the issues.
  • Develop external networks to influence the development of regulation on economic regulatory issues for the benefit of the business, its customers and the environment.
  • Develop internal networks within the business to collect, understand and develop suitable datasets for analytical purposes that help the business to allocate resources efficiently.
  • Provide analytical inputs for responses to Ofwat consultations on economic and regulatory issues.
  • Provide expert economic and quantitative advice and analysis on a range of issues to support the annual business planning cycle and to develop strategy for the quinquennial review of price controls.

What skills are we looking for?

Have you got a thorough understanding of economics or econometrics or a related discipline? Do you possess a strong academic background in economics, maths, or related subjects or a strong track record of providing insight from analysis of data? If the answer is yes, look no further.

  • We are seeking individuals with some experience of cost functions, efficiency benchmarking or financial econometrics and the ability and passion to undertake logical and well thought out analysis.
  • You will be a highly organised & analytical individual with significant experience in applied econometrics and management/analysis of large datasets and experience in at least one statistical software (preferably Stata or R, Python).
  • You will have excellent IT and first-class communication and presentational skills – including ability to communicate complex technical models to non-specialists.
  • Knowledge on modern statistical techniques such as machine learning to apply on large datasets would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong influencing & communication skills (written and oral), ability to think outside the box, high level competencies in analytical, conceptual & strategic thinking and team working.

What’s in it for you?

Working in a small team, but operating across the whole business and all operations, these new roles will be stimulating, challenging and hugely influential in how we develop as a business, support our customers and achieve a successful outcome at the next price review as the first step in achieving our longer-term vision.

Our competitive salary package includes 26 days holidays per year increasing to 30 with the length of service and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus many more.

We are proud to be here for our local community, offering everyone two days paid volunteer to leave, as well as proudly supporting a lot of local events and charities.
