We offer our clients innovative and creative ways to solve problems using economics as a foundation. This means we need you to be more than just a talented economist – you should also be an excellent consultant and first-rate communicator with the industry expertise and technical skills to back up your economics.

Our regulatory practices work with Europe’s leading utility companies, regulators, governments and investors. We provide economic analysis and clear advice to help our clients achieve commercial success and make better policy and regulatory decisions. Our expertise covers best practice regulation, competition advice, dispute support (whether international or commercial), strategy and policy development and investment/transaction support. We are also at the forefront of the ongoing energy transition to support the development of a low carbon economy, delivering a portfolio of innovative client work to help assess potential future energy solutions. We have worked on energy related issues in more than 50 countries and on all continents.

Position: Economic Consultant - Regulatory

Location: Dublin

Job type: Full Time, Permanent

Salary: Highly Competitive

Benefits: We are offering a highly competitive salary package plus bonus and benefits, including the option for flexible working arrangements. The role will be based in our Dublin office.

About the role:

We are currently looking for an exceptional candidate to join our team – primarily to work in our energy practice but also across other regulated sectors. As a regulatory economist at Frontier you can expect to work in project teams across the full range of our expertise for both private and public sector clients, and often in relation to high profile industry issues. Project work is likely to be predominantly Irish based, but you can also expect to be part of project teams working for clients right across Europe, and some travel may be required.

Some recent work of the practice includes advising:

  • Network companies in relation to the next round of Irish regulatory price controls.
  • Advising on market design issues in relation to Ireland’s Integrated Single Electricity Market.
  • Investors on a range of transactions across Europe for gas and electricity assets, including renewable technologies.
  • Network companies on different approaches to setting tariffs given changes in demand.
  • Energy companies on the potential impact of Brexit on the Irish energy sector.
  • One of the merging parties as it seeks CMA clearance for a proposed high profile energy retail merger.
  • The UK government on its strategy for the use of the gas network as the economy decarbonises.
  • A range of clients about the impact of low carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable heat technologies on the electricity system.

About you:

Applicants are required to have experience gained within a government / public authority, consultancy or industry. Previous energy experience is highly desirable. However, we will also consider those who have worked in other areas and have a keen interest to work in energy and other regulated sectors.

We expect the successful candidate to have the ability to apply a range of microeconomics tools to policy and business issues. Therefore you should have at least a degree with a main focus in economics or another highly analytical / quantitative discipline. You will also be able to communicate complex economic arguments in non-technical language, and to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.

We offer consultants unparalleled opportunities to develop, learn to manage projects and colleagues as well as build relationships with clients. You’ll be offered the opportunity to work closely with some of the brightest minds in the industry. In addition to your project work, as a shareholder of the company you will be encouraged to contribute to the running of our firm.

We are offering a highly competitive salary package plus bonus and benefits, including the option for flexible working arrangements. The role will be based in our Dublin office.

You may have experience of the following: Economic Advisor, Economist, Commercial Analyst, Business Economics, Economic Consultant, Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Consultant, Regulatory, etc.
