Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications sector. We regulate TV and radio, fixed line and mobile telecoms, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate, always with the aim of furthering the interests of UK citizens and consumers.

Ofcom also expects to regulate online harms in the future, including protecting adults and children from harmful content from social media giants. Designing effective ways to achieve this is a new and exciting challenge. For those with strong quantitative skills, this is an opportunity to undertake groundbreaking data-analysis and be at the forefront of such work.

Economics is central to Ofcom’s work. With a team of over 60 people, Ofcom’s Economics Group is one of the largest in the competition and regulation economics profession.

As an Economic Principal at Ofcom, you will be responsible for ensuring high quality economic analysis on challenging and high priority projects. You will have significant experience of providing high quality advice on competition and regulatory economics, with excellent academic qualifications. You will manage teams of economists across a number of projects.

You will have excellent communications skills, being able to explain economic issues to senior Ofcom management and external stakeholders, and ensure Ofcom’s documents are clear and precise.

Together with the Directors and other Principals, you will be responsible for the leadership of the team of Ofcom economists, motivating and developing colleagues.

All Ofcom staff enjoy generous benefits including private medical care, a private pension and 25 days’ leave (with the option of purchasing up to 10 additional days).

Ofcom offers flexible working arrangements to help manage work and personal commitments. We have family friendly policies that actively seek to support our colleagues and enable our teams to work in the most effective way. We welcome applications from candidates who would like to work part-time or flexibly, so please tell us what your preferred working arrangements are.

Ofcom is an equal opportunities employer and committed to equality of opportunity for all.

Please contact if you have any questions about this role.
