The Role

This position offers an opportunity to work closely with GM’s chief economistand other senior economic staff in applying economic analysis to GM’s businessand the auto industry. The Economics team’s work directly impacts the company’sbusiness decisions. The Economic Research Analyst will be a supportingmember of GM’s Economics team with a range of responsibilities, including, butnot limited to:

  • Assist chief economist and other senior economicstaff in research, including aiding in the preparation of memos to seniorleadership and presentations to GM and external audiences;
  • Data collection and analysis;
  • Preparation of charts, tables and PowerPointpresentations;
  • Assist in preparing internal publications,including formatting and proofreading;
  • Assist chief economist in preparing formeetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

The Economics team prepares economic andautomotive industry analysis for global markets and is part of the PortfolioPlanning organization; this is a full-time position.

The Economic Research Analyst will maintain the globaldatabases of the economics staff and provide timely updates of charts, tables,and PowerPoint presentations to support the Chief Economist and other teammembers. The Economic Research Analyst will also assist the chief economist andsenior economists with research projects on topics that may include autonomousdriving, demographics, environmental economics and country-specificmacroeconomic research. The Economic Research Analyst role is an opportunity toapply economics to business at the Fortune 8 corporation while learning moreabout the automotive industry, and the field of economics.

Applicant must have a strong work ethic and be capable ofproviding high-level work under tight timelines. Please include a recentwriting sample.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, with a minimum major GPA of 3.5 in Economics or Statistics, Math or a similar technical field. A background in Economics is preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience working with economic data and/or experience as a research assistant to a faculty member in economics or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word capabilities
  • Experience working with large datasets; proficiency with econometric/statistical software and/or coding in R or Python is a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
