An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Analyst to join Northern Powergrid in our Newcastle upon Tyne offices.

As a dedicated Analyst, you will be a key member of a small team focussed on the company’s interaction with policy and markets. You will use your skills in economics to develop our data analysis in key areas, including cost benchmarking and financial modelling, to inform policy decisions, public positions and investment decisions.

The role will require the ability to identify key insights from your analysis and turn these into a finished written product. It will require the ability to present findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including to our UK board as well as external stakeholders such as our regulator and government departments. You will lead on specific deliverables and have a role in project and programme management, ensuring deadlines are met, and co-ordinating inputs from diverse parts of the business.

Although the role will be based in Newcastle, you should expect travel to meet with industry representatives around the country or colleagues in other offices.

Along with a salary range of £28,000 - £40,000 (dependent upon skills and experience), we also offer:

  • A pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 12% (assuming 6% employee contributions)
  • Performance based bonus of up to 15%
  • 25 days holiday

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking a range of data analysis, such as financial modelling and cost benchmarking
  • Presenting messages to a variety of audiences using insightful written and visual products
  • Leading on specific regulatory submissions and contributing to a wide range of others
  • Project and programme management, coordinating inputs from diverse parts of the business

Key Competencies

  • Excellent IT skills – including a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel (other packages desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills –whether in written English, graphics, or in person
  • Highly flexible – happy to turn a hand toward a range of tasks and use your initiative to lead
  • Strong time management skills – able to manage your own time effectively

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Essential: Excellent academic track record – undergraduate or higher degree in Economics or related discipline
  • Desirable: 1-3 years of experience – using economics in a relevant setting
  • Highly skilled in analysing complex problems – in theory and through data analysis
