The Institute for Employment Studies

Brighton, United Kingdom

Application Deadline
£28,000- £35,000 depending on skills and experience.

We are recruiting an economist to join our team to conduct quantitative analyses in the fields of employment, labour markets, education, health, and social policy. This role involves carrying out analysis of data from both survey and administrative sources to estimate the causal impact of public policy changes and associated costs and benefits. Typically, projects estimate the effectiveness of programmes designed to overcome barriers to labour market participation and reduce inequality.

Making a difference through social research

IES is a leading independent centre of excellence for research and consultancy in public policy, employment and the labour market. We are not-for-profit and a registered charity, with a mission to bring about sustainable improvements in employment policy and human resource management. We achieve this by increasing the understanding and improving the practice of key decision-makers in policy bodies and employing organisations.

About you

The successful candidate will be a highly competent quantitative researcher, with a good understanding of applied research methods and a strong track-record in using a range of research techniques to a high standard. They will have the ability to lead project teams and work closely with clients

Applicants should have excellent academic qualifications in economics or empirical social sciences (preferably at Masters level or higher) and a good understanding of UK employment and social policy and related research evidence.

Your benefits

IES is based in Brighton, although it is expected to be predominantly home-based for the early part of 2021. We offer excellent benefits including 27 days holiday per year plus four closure days over Christmas plus bank holidays and a contributory career-average defined-benefit pension scheme (USS).

Application closing date: Monday 8th March 2021 at midday

The Institute for Employment Studies is actively seeking to improve the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all under-represented communities and groups. We are particularly keen to attract BAME candidates given their under-representation within the applied research sector. We also make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the individual requirements of disabled candidates and those with health conditions.
