Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
We’re the UK’s leading charitable funder of palliative and end-of-life care research. We fund our own researchers and work in partnership with other organisations, to ensure high-quality research in this area of care continues to be a priority.
Your role in our mission
The main purpose of the Economist role is to develop and lead economic analyses to grow the evidence base around palliative and end of life care and influencing policy and practice in this area. The Economist role requires a range of analytical and critical thinking skills to enable the identification of key economic questions for health and social care policymakers in the UK.
You will develop and implement analytical plans to address these questions and be confident in interpreting and communicating their findings clearly to a range of different audiences.
You will be required to collaborate with teams working across the policy and research directorate to undertake economic analysis projects in line with each area of our strategic focus, as outlined in our Research, Policy and Public Affairs Strategy. This will include costing – and where possible producing cost/benefit analyses - of policy proposals and new interventions.
This is an ideal career opportunity for someone with expertise in health economics or someone with an economics background with a keen interest in health and specifically palliative and end-of-life care. This role is brand new for Marie Curie and you will have the unique opportunity to shape the role and make a real difference to the palliative care landscape, supported and developed by our excellent Research & Policy team.

- Ability to communicate evidence in accessible ways to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrable self-initiative with the ability to use research to identify opportunities for evidence-based change in policy and/or practice.
