About Us

Warwickshire County Council is committed to supporting economic growth in the county.

Warwickshire Economics is the County Council’s economic research and analysis function, part of the Economy and Skills Group, based in Warwick. In recent years, Warwickshire Economics has become widely recognised for its high-quality research and analysis.

We provide intelligence and advice on Warwickshire's economy to senior managers and councillors. Our work underpins many of the Council’s policy and investment decisions.

We support our business support, inward investment, strategic employment and skills teams as well as other Council services with the development of new projects and programmes that deliver economic growth.

We also undertake work on behalf of partner organisations and other external clients.

From this strong foundation we have ambitious plans for the future.

About the Role

You will lead the Warwickshire Economics team by providing specialist support, intelligence and analysis on the local economy.

This is a fantastic time to lead the team as you help to shape economic development in Warwickshire and the wider region.

This year, and those immediately ahead, will bring unique challenges in local economic development and you will play a lead role in the development of strategies which impact directly on the Warwickshire economy. You will undertake research, utilise economic theory to identify and develop policy solutions and produce regular reports for the Council, partner organisations and local businesses.

By leading on economic impact assessments, you will support the development of business cases and applications for external funding. You will also play a lead role in the Council’s input into the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Our economists network extensively with both the public and private sector and you will participate in regular events including public lectures hosted by the Bank of England at the University of Warwick.

You will be based in Warwick, an attractive town with excellent road and rail connections to Birmingham, the Black Country, Oxfordshire and the south-east. You will join a Council which is proud of its supportive culture with a high emphasis on training and staff development. A range of public sector benefits include a defined pension scheme and a flexitime system which provides the opportunity to take up to 12 extra days leave per year.

Key Skills and Experience Required

You will have a degree in Economics or a related subject and a sound understanding of economic theory and principles and how they relate to local economic development.

You will have strong numerical skills and significant experience of undertaking economic research, providing advice and using current economic intelligence.

You will lead a small team and be an excellent ambassador for the Council, with high communication and interpersonal skills which enable you to build strong relationships with partner organisations and other external clients.

Rewards & Benefits of working for Warwickshire

It really is true that every single job role here at Warwickshire County Council contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our County; we want to do this for our employees, too. We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours, technology to support remote working (such as light laptops and phones where the role allows).

Time to recharge is so important; we provide a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us. You get all Bank and public holidays off, plus all staff are given an extra day of holiday over Christmas.

As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also have access to membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, a host of enhanced family friendly policies and some of the very best Learning and Development training courses to support your ongoing development.
