Reporting to – Group Economist, Corporate Strategy

As part of the Economics team, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the Group Economist in macro-economic analysis and facilitating projects of a key strategic nature to the Group. The role involves exposure to senior management in the Business Units and in Corporate and requires strong crossfunctional coordinating skills.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Key projects and processes in Corporate Strategy, including developing the Group’s strategic outlook, supporting M&A and the annual strategy planning process
  • Evaluate macroeconomic and steel consuming industry future trends and possible impact on the steel industry in general and ArcelorMittal in particular
  • Prepare Macroeconomic/Industry assumptions for the annual budget and strategic outlook, including macroeconomic and steel demand forecasts
  • Analyse global oil and gas markets
  • Prepare written reports and presentations to senior management
  • Support Investor relations team through guidance on the global economic outlook and regional steel consuming industries demand
  • Guide business units of potential short/medium term macroeconomic and steel consumption scenarios
  • Manage our global steel demand and supply database
  • Numerous ad-hoc strategic projects, both country specific or global in nature

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Required), Masters or MBA preferred
  • Circa 3 to 5 years’ experience as an analyst/economist in either an economics or metals consultancy or at a basic materials/industrial company
  • Experience in application of econometric models preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel, Power Point, understanding of Visual Basic preferred
  • Knowledge of the international commodities (including Oil and Gas) and metals markets advantageous

  • Fully fluent in spoken and written English; foreign language competency advantageous
