Global macro diversified alternative investment manager is seeking an Emerging Markets Economist/Strategist with 3-5 years’ relevant experience to cover South Africa, Turkey, Mexico and Brazil. The role is at Associate level, depending on experience, working in our London office reporting to our Head of Strategy & Research. The candidate should have experience covering at least one of these countries and the ability to expand coverage to the others. Economists/Strategists engage through regular meetings, presentations and exchanges of ideas to have direct impact on Portfolio Managers and the overall exposures of the Fund.


  • Conduct EM analysis of macroeconomic data, political developments and geopolitical news in Emerging Markets to interpret their meaning for financial asset prices and reporting analysis to senior portfolio management team.
  • Deep understanding of EM characteristics with ability to pivot between different countries.
  • Develop and maintain quantitative models and forecast and track macroeconomic variables.
  • Link macroeconomic analysis to asset valuation with weekly presentations to investment team.
  • Generate investment ideas for discussion amongst Portfolio Managers and Strategy & Research team.
  • Identify pertinent trends and dynamics within EM countries.
  • Create and update charts/data supporting Strategy & Research team within a broader global macro fund.
  • Spearhead dialogue with central bankers and the sell-side analyst community.


  • Master’s degree in economics or finance, PhD a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience within EM countries covering at least one of South Africa, Turkey, Mexico and Brazil.
  • Central banking experience a plus.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Willingness to undertake field trips to gather local intelligence.
  • Comfortable voicing opinions and receiving feedback within a highly collaborative culture.
