Based in Barcelona, Spain, FocusEconomics is a leading provider of economic intelligence reports for senior executives in multinational companies and governmental organizations. We are expanding our operations and are therefore looking for full-time economists

Our research team finds and analyzes a continuous stream of economic news and summarizes the findings for our clients. In addition, economic researchers maintain and update our internal database of economic forecasts, covering more than 120 countries worldwide.

The candidate should have finished a degree in economics (Masters is preferred) and should have a very good knowledge of macroeconomics. The position requires excellent writing and communication skills in English (native level). Experience in journalism / report writing is a strong asset for this position. Ability to meet strict deadlines is essential. Good analytical skills are important and first professional experiences are a plus. The candidate must have solid background of Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel. Basic knowledge of database software (Access, MySQL, etc.) and/or basic macro-programming (VBA) are a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The economist researches, analyzes, interprets and writes news on economic developments
  • Maintains comprehensive databases of economic indicators and forecasts
  • Prepares and writes reports and publications
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of regional summary reports
  • Supports senior economists in their research and projects
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

  • Working with comprehensive economic databases

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in economics ( Masters is preferred ) with focus on macroeconomics or international economics.
  • Solid background in macroeconomics
  • Knowledge of current economic debates relevant to decision makers in business and government
  • Excellent writing skills in English (native level)
  • Well-developed sense of teamwork
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of economic theories
  • Ability to write reports covering economic developments
  • Ability to determine data interrelationships
  • Ability to analyze and interpret economic data requests
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
