Job Summary

The Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment are seeking to appoint two Lecturers, starting in the 2021/22 academic year.

The positions are open to those working at key disciplinary interfaces relating to the understanding of, and responses to, climate and environmental change. We welcome applications from those with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Climate Physics, Data Science in Climate Energy, Low-Carbon Technologies, Climate Finance, or Economics and Public Policy.

During the initial three-years, the lectureships will be based at the Grantham Institute before formally transferring to an appropriate academic Department at Imperial. We are looking for passionate individuals to join our dynamic research Institute dedicated to effective action on climate change and the environment, in collaboration with one or more of the following Imperial College Departments or Faculties:

Department of Physics – Faculty of Natural Sciences

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering - Faculty of Engineering

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering - Faculty of Engineering

Department of Finance - Imperial College Business School

Department of Economics and Public Policy - Imperial College Business School.

These lectureships represent a significant investment in climate change and environmental research, aligning with Imperial College’s four strategic themes in support of a Sustainable, Healthy, Smart, and Resilient society.

Duties and responsibilities

You will broaden the College’s research capabilities, complementing our existing strengths. You will build on a successful programme of engagement and development at the Institute, working to inform decision-making in business and policy, and drive forward research and collaborations across the areas of climate and environmental change.

During the first three years, you will be responsible for delivering a programme of activity related to your field, as agreed by the Institute and the home department.

Essential requirements

To be successful, you will have:

  • A PhD in one of the following subject areas: Climate Physics, Data Science in Climate Energy, Low-Carbon Technologies, Climate Finance, or Economics and Public Policy, or related field or equivalent
  • A developing national reputation and expertise in your field
  • Experience of preparing grant applications for submission
  • A portfolio of research publications, confirming national standing (commensurate with career stage)
  • Good leadership skills
  • A collaborative nature and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships, both internally and externally
  • Experience of training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
  • Experience of supervision of higher degrees (PhD)
