This is an exciting opportunity as National Policy Manager to join our Policy Team in Knowledge Solutions.
To provide policy input on issues concerning government policy and standards, primarily with regard to designated standards, along with research and communications.
To manage the Policy team interest in matters relating to compliance with key requirements that form the basis of the National Standards Body and BSI’s formal requirements as a member of CEN and CENELEC.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
To develop and maintain BSI’s policy lines relating to UK government regulatory standards policy (primarily designated standards), and to provide policy documents and briefs in support of the views of BSI and UK stakeholders
To engage relevant UK stakeholders on policy issues and work with them to develop BSI’s positions relating to government
To represent BSI at meetings and events, particularly with government officials and with trade bodies
To act as an interface between BSI and government around designated standards
To provide a policy watch function relating to development in UK regulation (GB and NI) and EU regulation, with a particular focus on issues around divergence and convergence
To answer questions and to research issues, often at short notice, from UK government on standards issues, and to deliver analysis and briefings on standards and government issues
To perform specific research tasks on government policy and standards
To manage the Policy team’s inputs and responses to compliance and audit matters such as BS 0 process, CEN-CENELEC membership audit
To support the work of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee
To manage projects for research, consultancy and events
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Policy skills for research, analysis, reporting, developing positions, making recommendations
An understanding of the role of BSI as the UK’s National Standards Body, standards and their role in the economy
Knowledge of relationship between standards and regulation (New Approach/New Legislative Framework)
Experience in developing and implementing strategy
Excellent analytical skills and ability to assimilate complex documents from multiple sources
Excellent project management skills
Experience of auditing or a legal background beneficial
Excellent interpersonal skills: able to confidently engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, to include technical subject-matter experts and senior executives.
Excellent communication skills: able to deliver information to audiences effectively and professionally.
Excellent persuading skills: able to build cogent arguments and deliver effectively
