We are currently seeking applications for Policy Advisers to be based within the Directorate for International Trade & Investment, with offices based across Edinburgh and Glasgow. These are a permanent and pensionable appointments and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. The Directorate for International Trade & Investment (DITI) was established in 2018 to deliver the SG's increased ambition for internationalisation of the economy and to maximise the value of the food & drink sector. This means setting the policy direction on trade, capital & foreign direct investment, and food & drink sectoral policy in line with the PfG.
DITI works with others to deliver a Team Scotland approach: co-inventing, co-ordinating and championing policies and programmes to realise Scotland's trade & investment potential. DITI is one of a cluster of economic directorates, providing the platform to drive sustainable, inclusive economic growth and we also collaborate closely with the Directorate for External Affairs amongst others.
The Directorate is led by Richard Rollison, Director and is structured into four Divisions, as follows:
Trade & Inward Investment Delivery Division – Aims to enable more Scottish businesses to export more goods and services to more markets and secure greater foreign direct investment for Scotland.
Trade Policy Division – Aims to provide expert trade policy analysis which represents Scottish business and consumer interests, and aims to effect policy change which increases Scottish trade and investment flows.
Food & Drink Divison - Aims to deliver strategies and policies to drive growth in value across the food and drink sectors.
Investment Division – Leads our shareholder relationship with the Scottish National Investment Bank. It also leads on our relationship with the wider finance system to increase the flow of private investment into the areas of the economy that create the greatest social and environmental benefits as set out in the 2021 Capital Investment Plan.
We are recruiting for potentially up to six B2 policy adviser posts across all areas of the Directorate.
In addition, we expect further B2 vacancies to arise in other areas of the Directorate so a reserve list of candidates will be held for nine months.
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

1. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to communicate complex messages to a range of audiences.

3. Ability to understand a range of information, and making appropriate use of evidence, to inform policy.
4. Experience of balancing priorities and managing projects to a successful conclusion.
