£45,000 Plus 26 Days’ Holiday, Option To Buy Up To Five Days’ Extra Annual Leave, Flexible Working, Civil Service Pension, Childcare Voucher Scheme (subject to statutory tax rules), Additional Benefits Package

Set up under the Gambling Act 2005, the Gambling Commission is committed to safeguarding the public against any detrimental impact brought about by gambling. We do this by keeping crime out, protecting children and vulnerable people and ensuring the commercial gambling industry is run fairly and openly and we work with the legal system, the public health system, community groups and the industry itself to understand how we can protect the interests of as many people as possible, as effectively as possible.

The National Lottery is a valued national asset which has raised over £38 billion for good causes since it was launched in 1994. With the current National Lottery licence expiring in 2023, we are developing the programme to deliver the next Licence Competition where companies will compete to operate the National Lottery.

Now, we are looking for a forward-thinking Regulatory Economist to support the design and delivery of the National Lottery 4th Licence Competition.

Joining us means joining a dynamic, high profile sector and being at the cutting edge of regulation, where the work you do has a real impact on people’s lives. It also means joining an organisation that is inclusive, that respects work-life balance and is completely dedicated to helping you achieve your full potential. Whether that’s through flexible working, really understanding how you work best or exposing you to real opportunities to challenge yourself, if you’re passionate about making your mark on the industry and on society, then we will help you do that.

As a Regulatory Economist, you’ll support the successful creation and delivery of the National Lottery 4th Licence Competition.

Working as part of a small, talented team, you will:

  • Help to inform key policy decisions
  • Liaise with consultants, analyse data and contribute to governance and public-facing documents
  • Ensure that strategic objectives are met on time and to budget
  • Support the identification and management of strategic risks and opportunities

To be considered, you will need experience of the following:

  • Developing and applying an analytical framework and economic concepts to assess complex information
  • Working under pressure to produce high quality analysis to tight timescales while managing competing priorities
  • Building effective relationships and networks with relevant internal staff and external peers
  • Applying economic concepts and/or analytical techniques to economic regulations

Decisive and focused, as the Regulatory Economist, you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be able to take full ownership of tasks and work successfully as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

This vacancy is prohibited from playing the National Lottery as it is in a position to influence regulatory decisions in relation to the National Lottery.

This role is available in Central Birmingham or Central London.

The closing date for applications is the 26th October 2018.
