We wish to appoint a Research Fellow with expertise in economics or health economics to join the Health Organisation, Policy and Eonomics research group, based at the University of Manchester. The postholder will use econometric methods and large survey and administrative datasets to further our understanding of the links between welfare benefits and mental health. The successful candidate will work on an NIHR funded study looking at the mental health effects of Universal Credit (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR131709). This study aims to understand the impact of the introduction of Universal Credit on mental health and wellbeing, the implications for health inequalities, and how these effects are moderated by variation in implementation across Great Britain.
The successful applicant will work with Professor Matt Sutton and Dr Luke Munford and will be based in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. This is a full-time post that allows home working from within the UK, with the expectation that travel to Manchester and other areas of the UK for work-related reasons are viable on a regular basis.
