Salary: £51,702 - £59,351 pa

Hours: Full time

Contract: Permanent

With markets changing fast in an increasingly digitalised world and the UK leaving the EU, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) are currently undergoing rapid business growth and have an exciting opportunity for a Sector Regulation Manager to help expand the frontiers of competition in the UK’s regulated sectors.

The successful candidate will join our Sector Regulation Unit that helps to promote competition in the UK's regulated sectors – i.e. energy, water and sewerage, telecoms, broadcasting, post, rail, airports and air traffic services, health services in England, and financial services. These sectors provide essential services for everyone in the country and are of key importance to the national economy. Pricing, service standards and competition in these sectors are a matter of fundamental importance to individuals and businesses and are the subject of considerable public and political interest.

As a manager in the CMA’s Sector Regulation Unit, you will play a key role facilitating dialogue and cooperation with sector regulators on the promotion of competition. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with sector regulators on competition law casework
  • Delivering projects to promote competition in the regulated sectors
  • Monitoring developments in the regulated sectors, recommending CMA interventions
  • Playing an active role in the production of the CMA’s annual concurrency report
  • Building effective, positive and influencing relationships with the sector regulators

You will need a proven track record of applying competition policy principles relating to competition law and/or economics, with experience of successfully delivering projects working with multi-disciplinary teams. You will also need experience of gathering evidence from wide-ranging and appropriate sources and managing complex information to analyse issues and reach evidence-based recommendations and decisions.

The CMA prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to ensure that staff have the opportunity to grow and expand their skills portfolio. As well as being a hugely rewarding and stimulating place to work, you will have an opportunity to work for the public good whilst stretching and developing yourself in doing so.

We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee well-being programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.

Closing date for applications: 29th April 2019.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds and recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
