Technopolis Group is an international research and consulting organisation with offices throughout Europe and a growing business in emerging economies.

Our main business is the conduct of policy studies, evaluations and socio-economic impact assessments for various regional, national and international organisations. We work across a number of policy areas, ranging from research and innovation to higher education, by way of healthcare, energy and transport.

Clients are predominantly public or third sector and include various UK government departments, European Commission DGs and international bodies like the OECD and the World Bank. We have grown steadily over the past 30 years and are continuing to expand internationally, with around 150 consulting staff working across 12 offices, from Brighton in the UK to Vienna in Austria.

The UK team is growing strongly and is expanding in its core business and in several new policy domains, both in the UK and internationally. Amongst other things, we are expanding our economic consultancy and intensifying our use of novel data analytics and econometric techniques.

The job

We are looking to recruit an experienced economist to join the UK research and innovation policy team as a Senior Consultant. The successful candidate will be expected to help ensure the continuing success of our evaluation practice within the context of advances in the state-of-the art and evolving government guidelines. It provides the opportunity to further develop your evaluation, management and leadership skills within a team of like-minded individuals. We have recently opened an office in central London, and the position could be based in either London or Brighton.

Duties

  • Delivering policy evaluations and economic impact assessments
  • Managing larger work packages or smaller projects and teams
  • Writing and presenting client reports and deliverables of a high quality
  • Establishing good client relationships that ensure the work delivered fully meets expectations
  • Ensuring individual assignments are delivered to plan, in terms of agree deliverables, timing and resources
  • Helping to grow the evaluation practice through identifying leads and preparing tenders, including the design of robust and innovative methodologies

Your Profile

We are looking for someone with at least 3-years’ relevant work experience in a consulting environment, who is bright, judicious and with a strong work ethic. More specifically, candidates must have:

  • A higher degree in a relevant subject with, at least, a good undergraduate degree in economics
  • A good command of quantitative methods (e.g. Cost Benefit Analysis, Cost Effectiveness Analysis, Econometric and / or Statistical analysis, Modelling)
  • A good command of statistical software packages (e.g. MS Excel, Stata, R, SQL)
  • The ability to write well and to a professional standard, in English.
  • Self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and an ability to work independently
  • A willingness to travel and work in international teams

Other desirable attributes include:

  • Experience in policy evaluation, and in particular the application of economic methods to economic impact assessment
  • Familiarity with HM Treasury’s Green Book guidance on appraisal and evaluation
  • Familiarity with the European Commission’s Better Regulation toolbox
  • Knowledge of Data Science techniques (e.g. semantic text analysis) and programming (e.g. Python, R)
