JOB PURPOSE:

To support the Head of Analytics in developing and imbedding a culture of high performance innovation across all aspects of business operations.

DIMENSIONS:

This role will target the optimisation of the following:

  • UK Power Networks RIIO-ED1 Totex: £6.4billion
  • Annual base revenue: £1.4billion
  • Available annual incentives: £72million

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

This role will be responsible for the following tasks:

Translation

  • Facilitating discussions from the business to the analytics team and from the analytics team back to the business
  • Converting the business hypotheses and pain points into the analytical experiments to be run by the team

Statistical robustness of evidence bases

  • Applying aspects of behavioural economics, cognitive science, game theory and statistics to the analysis of large, seemingly disparate datasets
  • Leading the definition of analytical experiments to address business issues and gut instinct reactions

Effecting change from c-suite to front line

  • Supporting the development of key business metrics which do not provide a view of what happened but define why it happened and where effort should be focused
  • Supporting in the identification, definition and quantification of next generation insights to help support future business planning activity
  • Visualising and communicating the insights back to the business in simple, tailored formats

Supporting, shaping and building a culture of high performance

  • Starting with the team ways of working and building out to our interactions across the wider business, constantly driving the conversation of marginal gains performance enhancement
  • Promoting the use of experimentation and randomised control testing across the organisation facilitating their use as an embedded part of the organisational DNA

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The role of the Regulation team in the Safety, Strategy & Support Services Directorate is to proactively develop, implement and enhance delivery of the regulatory strategy, monitor and report against regulatory obligations and achieve the best possible compliant regulatory outcomes for UK Power Networks.

The Analytics team are responsible for internal and external guidance, services and assurance functions to:

  • Promote the development of high performance best practices and techniques
  • Provide the business with the insights required to understand why things are the way they are and to determine what levers they can use to influence it.
  • Lead strategic projects to achieve the UK Power Networks vision in becoming an 'employer of choices', 'a respected corporate citizen' and 'sustainably cost efficient'.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive track record of successfully leading analytical assignments
  • Degree qualified in a numerate discipline such as MORSE, Economics or Operational Research
  • A repertoire of analytical software such as, but not limited to: R, Python, Tableau, Neptune and PowerBI
  • Excellent inter-personal and presentational skills
  • Ability to work independently, challenge the status quo, innovate and bring new thinking to complex issues
  • Clear evidence of managing several projects concurrently and proactively taking forward pieces of work
  • Strong analytical and written skills are required to enable the ability to work across consultation and regulatory requirements
  • The ability to work with all levels of the business from front line staff through to Directors, adapting the level of detail, tone etc. to match
  • A desire to seek to understand more and ask questions to ensure data is accurate and the answers being given are correct
