With your knowledge of developments in emerging markets, as an international economist you are an important link within the bank in a world that never stands still.

A challenging position for an enthusiastic international economist with ambition, knowledge of country risk and preferably with an interest in emerging Europe. You get the press, but also advise internally on the country risk in 'your' region / countries.

Tell us your story. We are curious! If you are good, you can become even better with us. We promise you that. This is your chance to become the professional you want to be.

Your job

You analyze the economic developments in emerging markets and you contribute to the bank's country risk policy. You also support commercial activities and help strengthen customer relationships by offering customers access to research. With your research you also help to strengthen the bank's external profile as a thought leader. You regularly give presentations inside and outside the bank. And your vision is eagerly picked up by the press. You publish frequently about developments within your region. You do that independently and independently, but you do allow yourself to be challenged by your colleagues. As an economist at the Emerging Markets & Commodities team you work closely with colleagues from the Business.

You will work for the Emerging Markets & Commodities team, which in addition to the head consists of two country specialists and 3 raw material specialists. The department is part of the Economic Office, where a total of around 25 people work. The atmosphere is informal and the lines are short.

Quality is of paramount importance. There is a good balance between individual performance and teamwork. Together with the team, we analyze developments in emerging markets in all their aspects. Both directly for the customer (via external publications) but also internally for policy development.

Your working environment

The Economic Bureau (EB) is part of the Strategy & Sustainability (S&S) business unit. We do economic research for the entire bank and all its customer groups. Our research is independent, but we work closely with other business units. In addition to ABN AMRO's senior management, we effectively serve all customer groups of the bank. We do that by setting priorities based on bank interests. We strive for optimum value creation for the bank and its customers. We are seen as original thinkers and experts in our field and we want to distinguish ourselves from the competition.

Working within the Emerging Markets Team means that you help shape the bank's vision of developments in emerging markets and the associated risks. The Emerging Markets Team is responsible for the bank's internal Sovereign Rating Model. The results of the model are used by the bank to determine the willingness to grant credit to high-risk countries. The results also serve as input for other bank models in which country risk is a factor.

Your profile

Strong analytical person with a smooth pen and several years of work experience. You have demonstrable writing experience, in particular also in English. You are someone who wants to stimulate sharp analyzes, whereby the interests of the customer are of course paramount. You have a Masters in Economics (macro-economics with preferably international economic relations / international financing). Knowledge of and interest in emerging markets is an advantage. Strong quantitative impact has been included. You can work well independently, but like to mirror your opinion to that of your colleagues. You like to play a role in a team. You have the ambition to develop yourself and continue to grow.

Check your profile

  • academic education (macro-economics, preferably with a focus on international economic relations and / or international financing and / or development economics)
  • strong analytical skills
  • you can express yourself well, both orally and in writing
  • good knowledge of Excel and preferably good quantitative knowledge
  • excellent command of the English language in speech and writing
  • full of initiative
  • independent, but a team player
  • pragmatic, creative and solution-oriented attitude
  • results-oriented

We offer

First of all a challenging job within a fun team in which you as a professional have the freedom to grow and get the best out of yourself. In addition, we offer you a competitive salary and good benefits. Flexible working, including working from home, is possible.
