Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.
Our economists play a central role in our work, providing the evidence and economic analysis that underpins sound decisions on policy and market regulation and supports better outcomes for energy consumers. As a Senior Economist you will apply strategic thinking to evaluate how effective economic analysis can best support policy development. This will include identifying and applying the most appropriate economic tools, models and concepts that can offer accurate and insightful reporting and support well-informed policy setting. Your contribution can have a direct impact on consumers: lowering energy bills and protecting vulnerable customers; reducing environmental impact; and ensuring a high quality, safe and reliable energy service.
You should already have experience of applying economic concepts to policy appraisal and evaluation and enjoy working with complex data. Your subject matter expertise will ensure that you can apply a wide range of analysis and appraisal techniques. And this should be supported by well-developed project management skills that ensure projects are delivered to agreed timelines, with high quality outcomes. The ability to tailor your communication style to different audiences and simplify complicated subject matter will be key, and it’s important that you have experience of influencing across an organisation and working with a range of different stakeholders. It’s likely that you have a degree in Economics, or that you can demonstrate equivalent expertise thorough professional experience.
