The Finance & Leasing Association (FLA)

The FLA is the leading trade association for the UK asset finance, consumer credit and motor finance sectors, and the largest organisation of its type in Europe.

It represents a wide range of specialist lenders who in 2020 provided £113 billion of new finance to UK consumers and businesses, including more than a third of all new UK consumer credit, supporting more than 93% of new car purchases by individuals, and financing more than a third of all UK investment in business equipment.

Our members include both banks, subsidiaries of major manufacturers, and many independent finance companies. They operate locally, regionally and nationally and support more than 330,000 UK jobs.

The types of credit offered by our members – including in high street shops and car dealerships, online, and in the form of equipment leasing and hire purchase – have a proven track record of resilience in times of economic uncertainty.

Job Purpose

The FLA’s Research Department is a leading resource of UK industry and economic data that supports evidence-based policy work on members’ behalf and demonstrates the significant economic contribution of FLA markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out survey work.
  • To collate, analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative datasets.
  • To use a wide range of statistical techniques as appropriate.
  • To maintain up-to-date and accurate statistical databases and assist in their development.
  • To provide support to the Director of Research and Chief Economist.
  • Undertake any other duties as maybe reasonably required by the Association.


  • Previous experience of data analysis, with a particular emphasis of working with financial and economic data.
  • Previous experience of survey work.
  • Previous experience of contributing to research projects.
  • IT experience (Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel Functions including Pivot Tables, EViews, SPSS).


  • To effectively communicate statistics to non-technical audiences including colleagues, members and external audiences.
  • Strong IT skills.


Graduate in Statistics or in a subject with a substantial statistical content.


  • Highly numerate.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Work to tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, confident and able to work to high standards.
  • Able to multitask and prioritise.
