This position is a Strategy Advisor for the Strategy and Market Development team in Shell Energy Europe & Environmental Products.

The incumbent will conduct analysis and develop insights into natural gas, power, and CO2 market structures and trends, and use this knowledge to help develop commercial strategies that generate tangible financial results in the short and medium term.

The incumbent will actively engage with SEE commercial teams to develop joint views on market opportunities and propose specific opportunities actions and initiatives.

The incumbent will provide analytical support for specific business activities and ensure that these are consistent with the broader SEE strategy. The role will have substantial exposure to the SEE LT and this is an excellent developmental role for either someone in trading or someone wishing to move into trading.

Accountabilities

  • Actively engage with SEE commercial teams to identify areas of potential value creation and competitive insights requiring more in-depth analysis, leading to the generation of specific initiatives and profitable transactions
  • Drive fundamentals based analysis of gas, power and C02 markets based on supply and demand trends. Develop accurate models to analyse price trends, evaluate commercial opportunities, analyse risks and sensitivities and project future market behaviour. Leverage various databases and news feeds to extract the information relevant for the analysis. Establish credibility of the analysis by being very rigorous and organized around the development of these models, performing quality checks and building a track record of strong reliability.
  • Contribute to M&A strategy projects within own business unit and across the Shell group
  • Participate in development, evaluation and negotiation of deals with strategic importance to the business.
  • Build expertise in nascent markets such as biogas, biomethane, hydrogen, CCS, or flex products based on storage assets to identify how SEE can position for future opportunities.
  • Identify new business opportunities and engage the relevant commercial teams in developing concrete plans to pursue them.
  • Prepare material to engage Traders and Commercial leaders on issues of strategic relevance to the company.

Requirements

  • University educated, ideally with a post-graduate qualification having a strong analytical component. Evidence of strong academic performance
  • In-depth knowledge of European gas supply and demand, gas or power commodities and the changing regulatory, commercial, customer and competitor playing field in the gas industry strongly desired.
  • Downstream supply/strategy experience would also be beneficial.
  • Ability to distil a broad array of industry data and competitor knowledge, together with specialist and strategic advice and synthesize it into specific recommendations with tangible impact, will be a key success factor for this position.
  • Self-starter, able to initiate new opportunities from a broadly defined set of objectives, meet/exceed performance targets and motivate others to do likewise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in written and spoken English essential.
  • Commercial acumen and demonstrated achievement.
