The Supervision of Lenders and Intermediaries department of the FSMA is tasked with the supervision of insurance intermediaries, intermediaries in banking and investment services, credit intermediaries and lenders. At the end of 2017, more than 26,000 intermediaries (including more than 11,000 insurance intermediaries) were active on the Belgian market

In the coming years, the department wishes to focus even more on a thorough risk-based approach to carrying out its supervision. This means designing risk models, applying them (a.o. back-testing and adjusting them), as well as further developing a customized supervisory methodology.

The service is looking for an experienced economist who will play a key role in the design and implementation of the risk-based approach taken by the department in its supervision. Initially focused on design (development and implementation of annual supervisory plans), the position will evolve over the years to become operational (coordination and carrying out of supervision).

In addition, the position will also involve the development of a behavioural approach based on the principles of behavioural economics as a complementary part of a risk-based supervision.
