Ofwat (the Water Services Regulation Authority) is seeking experienced regulatory and competition economists to play an important role in delivering our strategy. We are going to be addressing the many challenges the sector faces and we’ll be driving the sector as hard as ever, using a wider range of regulatory tools.

The goals in our strategy will help us do this. They are to:

  • transform water companies’ performance;
  • drive water companies to meet long-term challenges through increased collaboration and partnerships; and
  • for water companies to provide greater public value, delivering more for customers, society and the environment.

As an Economist, you may be deployed across Ofwat’s programmes, our Strategy Hub or the newly formed RAPID unit, a cross regulatory group to facilitate the development of new strategic water resources infrastructure for generations to come. Ofwat’s programmes include Market Outcomes and Enforcement, Finance and Governance as well as the current price review, PR19.

These roles require a high level of technical competency, good written and oral communication skills, policy skills, well developed people and stakeholder management skills, and a track record of delivery against challenging deadlines. Our economist roles are not purely technical advisory, you will be part of the economist profession within the Policy and Analytics Pool and will take part in managing and running projects and policy development to solve regulatory problems.

We are interested in both Senior Associate and Principal candidates. We expect a Principal to be capable of much stronger intellectual leadership, and to have a track record of leading teams and engaging with senior managers and stakeholders. We would also expect them to have broader knowledge of regulatory or competition economics and stronger policy making skills.

These are permanent roles, with a salary of £33,851 - £50,615 at senior Associate level and £50,616 - £77,422 at Principal level. You will find a detailed role profile and more about our benefits on our website (link below).

We offer a substantial benefits package including 25 days holiday plus 10 ½ bank holiday and privilege leave days per annum among other benefits.

A truly flexible, autonomous and trust based working culture is on offer to help you succeed within Ofwat. For further information, a detailed role profile including benefits and how to apply, please visit our website http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/jobs/make-a-splash/

Please forward a CV and cover letter, including the relevant experience required for this post. Please ensure that you have outlined how your skills and experience meet the criteria set out in the requirements section of the role profile. All applications require a CV Supplement form (mandatory) and a Diversity form.

Closing Date: 5:00PM, 23 October.
