The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance and advice on promoting high quality health, public health and social care.

Our role is to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services. We do this by:

  • Producing evidence-based guidance and advice for health, public health and social care practitioners.
  • Developing quality standards and performance metrics for those providing and commissioning health, public health and social care services;
  • Providing a range of information services for commissioners, practitioners and managers across the spectrum of health and social care.

The Centre for Health Technology Evaluation develops guidance on the use of new and existing medicines, medical devices, diagnostics, treatments and procedures within the NHS.

As part of the Centre’s work on evaluating medical technologies, the Diagnostics Assessment Programme provides specialist capacity to evaluate innovative medical diagnostic technologies in order to ensure that the NHS is able to adopt clinically and cost effective technologies rapidly and consistently.

Reporting to the Technical Adviser, the Health Technology Analyst is the technical lead on various projects involving assessments of medical diagnostic technologies. The role includes being responsible for scoping topics, liaising with industry, academic bodies and stakeholder groups. The post holder is responsible for identifying key technical issues and presenting the evidence base to our independent advisory committee, as well as drafting the guidance to the NHS.

What you will bring to NICE:

  • A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant area
  • Skills in health economics, medical statistics, clinical trials, epidemiology or related areas
  • A good understanding of the principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and the interpretation of health care research evidence
  • Good communication skills, demonstrating oral, written and presentation skills with a high degree of personal credibility and sensitivity
  • Ability to gather data, analyse, critique and synthesise complex information and prepare reports, briefing documents and guidance documents
