Application Deadline: Monday 1st July 2019

Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

We now have a number of opportunities for analytically minded individuals who can work with complex policy issues to be part of our Wholesale Market and Commercial team. This team works to ensure that the wholesale energy markets function effectively and support the best interest of energy consumers. Its diverse portfolio includes security of supply arrangements, planning for Brexit, trading arrangements, investment in interconnectors to transfer electricity across borders, and engagement with EU institutions. Initially these roles will focus on two key aspects of our work:

  • The Capacity Market, including our Five Year review of the Capacity Market Rules and management of financial incentives on the EMR Delivery Body
  • the Secure and Promote review, designed to improve liquidity in the GB wholesale electricity market.

As a Policy Manager you’ll produce high quality analysis of policy options that support evidence-based recommendations, and have the opportunity to represent Ofgem in range of external settings – including working with industry representatives, government departments and European bodies. You’ll need excellent communication skills (in writing and in person) to convey your analysis of complex material to different audiences. Excellent project management skills and the confidence to prioritise your own workload and think creatively about your approach will all be key. We expect that you’ll be degree educated or have built up equivalent expertise through practical career experience. And it’s important that you have a good knowledge of wholesale power markets, in Great Britain and/or EU markets.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days’ annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
  • Restaurant and subsidised gym
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Rental deposit scheme
  • Perkbox (staff discount scheme)
  • Employee Wellbeing Programme.

Closing date: Monday 1st July 2019.

Ofgem is an equal opportunities employer. Protecting consumers and powering the future of the energy debate.
