As a Senior Economist, you will play a key role NFER’s visibility and impact strategy to deliver impactful evidence across our eight key topic areas that policy makers and system leaders need and that informs and positively influences their decision-making.

The role of Senior Economist will be to:

  • Use economic analysis to shed new light on education issues
  • Initiate and manage projects and one off analysis that apply an understanding of market failure, cost-effectiveness analysis, behavioural science, incentives and econometric modelling to pressing policy and practice questions.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Impact strategy.
  • Collaborate with the wider community of NFER economists in creating new ideas for research and analysis and developing the use of quantitative and economic methods across the NFER.
  • Drive and support the dissemination activity and influence of NFER’s own research and analysis.

Your technical background:

  • A Masters or higher degree in economics (with a strong microeconomics and evaluation element), or an equivalent combination of qualifications and professional experience
  • Quantitative research skills; including knowledge of statistical techniques used in applied economics and experience/understanding of how to develop economic models to support decision making
  • Experience of applying economic principles and analysis to policy questions
  • User of statistical software e.g. STATA, SPSS, R, MPlus and MLWin

Bonus Points:

We’re eager to hear from you if you’ve worked with policy evaluation or current educational issues as an Economist, Researcher, or Research Manager with an economics background and have experience in National Pupil Database or School Workforce Census assessment datasets.
