Senior Economist, Centre for Economic Justice x 2

£36,901 – £45,584 per annum plus benefits

Permanent - full time (37.5 hours)

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), the UK’s leading progressive think tank, is looking to recruit two Senior Economists for the new Centre for Economic Justice at IPPR.

The Centre for Economic Justice, to be launched in January 2019, will be IPPR’s flagship initiative over the coming years. Its aim is to build on the work of the Commission on Economic Justice, which presented a blueprint for a new, fairer and more prosperous economy in September 2018, and which has already had a marked impact on the economic debate. The Centre for Economic Justice is the natural extension of the Commission, which will seek to both broaden and deepen its analysis and proposals.

With a track record as an economist; expertise in analysing government data sets; and a good understanding of government and the public policy making process, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping to develop and take forward the work of the Centre for Economic Justice.

Key responsibilities will include: designing, leading and managing quantitative economic research projects; providing ad hoc analytical support to other teams across the Institute as required; and helping to communicate IPPR’s work on the economy via engagement with policymakers and other stakeholders, publication of blogs, and media appearances.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of economic policy, with the ability to link data analysis to current policy debates, and to develop practical policy recommendations on the basis of evidence. They will be an experienced research project manager who is familiar with a range of advanced quantitative methods. Additionally, they will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to the values and ethos of IPPR.

As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post. All options can be discussed at interview stage.

For an information pack and application form please visit or email quoting the job title or REF: SECEJ/OCT. Completed applications should be returned to Please quote the reference in the subject line. We do not accept CVs. In order to complete your application please also complete IPPR’s equal opportunities monitoring form

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is midnight Sunday 18 November 2018.

Interviews will be held w/c 3 December 2018.
