SUMMARY:

Experience in at least one of the following sectors is required; Transport; Energy; Water; Smart Cities.Experience in supporting bids for public private partnerships and other forms of private finance projects, assisting governments in evaluation and procurement of such projects, and ongoing support to the private owners and operators of such assets, would be an advantage.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE:

A successful Senior Economist is able to analyse new and complex problems, design and apply advanced methods, and produce high quality end products. A Senior Economist will also be expected to manage some staff and parts of projects, as well as to begin to develop client relationships. The ideal candidate for work in Transaction Advisory would have a combination of strategic advisory experience and economic modelling related to economic infrastructure (transport, energy, water, etc.). This is someone who can both build models and create findings that are relevant to both government agencies and financial investors in economic infrastructure. The role has a a particular focus on economic forecasting, the modelling of revenues and wider economic benefits, and the economics of public-private partnership models.

The role will involve working in teams as well as independently to formulate evidence-based insights and translate them into credible, clear and compelling advice and support to our clients. The candidate will have a proven track record of working in the private finance sector and will understand what it takes to manage and successfully deliver advice in the challenging contexts bid support. The geographic focus is international. Some international travel may be expected as part of this role.

While the successful candidate is expected to focus on the role outlined above, they will also be required to contribute insight on broader economic forecasting, and the general commercial and economic dynamics of public private partnerships to a range of other projects across the company’s focal areas.

PRIMARY DAY-TO-DAY DUTIES:

  • Structuring and applying frameworks to analytical problems.
  • Developing client solutions, addressing client input, and designing materials that effectively communicate recommendations and support client objectives.
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with existing clients, as well as a broader professional network.
  • Keeping updated with knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organisations.
  • Contributing to business development and marketing opportunities.
  • Participating in company improvements; potentially leading on internal change initiatives.
  • Develop and see through plans; forecast resources; prepare budgets; and support the development of junior staff.

REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:

A Senior Economist will lead key streams of work for a project, and may also begin to take the primary lead on a project as a whole. As a result, a Senior Economist may supervise up to three people, of Economist and Analyst grade. A Senior Economist will report to the Transaction Advisory Practice Leads.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have sufficient experience to demonstrate competency in the duties described. As a guide, five or more years of experience with at least half focused specifically on private financing of projects. Previous consultancy experience is not necessary but is preferred. Previous experience managing projects and complex analysis is required.

A first class or upper second class degree in a relevant field is required. An MSc/MA or Ph.D. in a relevant field preferred. Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of other languages, particularly Spanish, are a bonus.
