Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest.

Competition at Frontier

Our Competition team works closely with clients and legal counsel, providing a mix of strategic advice and technical support. We assist in pre-empting issues, in producing and responding to technical analysis, in preparing client submissions and expert reports and in giving oral evidence.

Job Description

Associate Directors are responsible for the long-term sustainability and success of Frontier. To do this they lead and add value across three areas:

Brand: Associate Directors play a vital role in safeguarding our brand by effectively communicating and advocating our work and the firm's culture both within the company and to external audiences.

Revenue: Associate Directors play a crucial role in revenue generation that aligns with our values, cultivating robust client relationships, assisting in project acquisition, and identifying new opportunities. They also oversee project profitability through efficient resource management, timely delivery, and budget adherence, ensuring Frontier's sustained success.

Culture: Associate Directors actively nurture and promote Frontier's culture and values, serving as inspirational and inclusive leaders within their practices, embodying our core values, and prioritising exceptional client results within a vibrant and inclusive work atmosphere.

As a key contact in the practice, Associate Directors enjoy a wide and diverse role working with people collaboratively across the Firm. While individual Associate Directors' contributions may evolve with their careers, there is an ongoing expectation to consistently exhibit competence in four key areas:

Developing Self and Others:

  • Actively participate in mentoring and Career Development Review processes for Analysts, Consultants (and potentially Managers) and act as a role model by offering support to less experienced mentors.
  • Promote career development and excellence; actively managing work-life balance and staff well-being whilst executing mentoring duties to a high standard.
  • Ensure staff development aligns with firm and client needs, addressing emerging skill gaps promptly.

Leadership & Governance:

  • Participate in firm management, staying aware of strategic decisions, upholding strict financial and administrative project management standards, and offering support for corporate activities as needed.
  • Take an active leadership role within the practice and the firm, adhering to the highest standards of thought leadership, and client and project management.
  • Enhance the firm's skills, expertise, and capabilities by prioritising high-quality and engaging work, fostering intellectual openness with constructive feedback.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Effectively oversee projects by offering intellectual insight to clients, showcasing robust people and project management skills, while also encouraging and supporting project staff to achieve their best performance through development and guidance.
  • Continually work towards building a portfolio of clients that are important players in their particular sector, where our work will make a difference.
  • Seek out networking opportunities, and manage and develop client relationships within existing and new organisations.

Financial Management and Sustainability:

  • Build a long term revenue pipeline by developing long term relationships with clients; identifying new markets or technical expertise and developing the skills of more junior staff in this area.
  • Take responsibility for the financial management of specific projects including: monitoring utilisation, recoverability and fee rates, and effective management of clients' expectations.
  • In collaboration with other practice management team members, take responsibility for identifying areas where the practice as a whole could expand its work winning activities.

Essential Requirements:

  • Evident proficiency and experience in competition-related project work.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, backed by a track record of supporting others and thriving in collaborative environments.
  • Proficiency in thought leadership, as well as strong capabilities in client and project management
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbally and in writing, able to adapt to different audiences/styles
  • Great organisational skills – able to organise a varied workload, prioritise effectively and keep stakeholders updated as appropriate
  • Good relationship building skills – keen to get to know people from across the Firm, attend meetings and occasionally travel to other offices.

Desirable:

  • German, French or Spanish Language (C1/2)

In addition to stimulating and thought-provoking project work, we offer numerous benefits to support you inside and outside of work. All employees have access to numerous Learning & Development opportunities including ongoing Career Development Reviews with the support of an allocated Mentor.

We understand the importance of work/life balance and offer flexible working arrangements including working from home. In addition we provide 28 days annual leave with the option to purchase an additional 10.

Frontier is entirely owned by its employees. As Shareholders, we encourage everyone to put forward their views. Not only do we influence how the company is run but we choose to distribute as much of our profits as is prudently possible through bonuses. In addition we offer a highly rewarding salary.

Frontier Economics is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, age, or any other status protected by law.
