THE COMPANY
Prysm Global is a consulting firm helping public authorities, companies, and investors navigate and shape regulation and policy, and take a strategic approach to delivery. Since we started nearly two years ago, we have served about 40 clients, ranging from some of the world's largest corporations and the UK's largest mayoral combined authorities to mould-breaking start-ups. We work across sectors where regulation and policy are strategically important, including financial services, infrastructure, utilities, transport and technology.
Prysm Global is distinctive in bringing a strategic perspective to bear on clients' challenges alongside deep expertise in regulation, policy, public affairs and economics. We provide objective and authoritative advice based on robust evidence and rigorous analysis.
The firm was founded by two senior partners, Anthony Browne and Jonathan Davidson, and has grown quickly to around 10 people, working from offices near Oxford Circus.
THE ROLE
This is a role for an economist who wants to work on questions that matter to policy, regulation and investment in the UK. Much of our work is aimed at persuading central government, so the analysis must survive rigorous scrutiny rather than simply support the client's preferred conclusion.
You will work directly with the Director of Economics on a varied portfolio of projects, including but not limited to rail and transport investment cases, fiscal devolution for mayoral authorities, aviation and airport economics, and water regulation. Our clients include combined authorities, major infrastructure operators and trade bodies, and much of our work is aimed at central government.
You will:
- Build, run and quality-assure the economic and financial models that sit underneath our advice
- Assemble and interrogate the evidence base, including national statistics, client data and published appraisal evidence
- Draft reports, notes and slides that translate the analysis into something a senior client or an official can act on
- Contribute to proposals and pitches for new work • Take a real share of client contact from early on, given the size of our teams
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We care more about clear thinking and analytical objectivity than about credentials.
You will need:
- An undergraduate degree in economics, or in a quantitative subject with substantial economics content. A masters is welcome but is not a requirement
- Around two to four years' professional experience in economic analysis, in government, a regulator, or a consultancy
- Fluency in Excel, including familiarity with conducting rigorous statistical and economic analyses, e.g. cost-benefit analysis, modelling or forecasting
- The ability to write clearly for readers who are not economists, and to present analysis objectively, including its limitations
- Initiative and a self-directed approach. A team of our size gives you unusual autonomy over how you work, and you will frequently be steering your own work
- The right to work and live in the UK
We would be glad to see some, though not all, of the following:
- Familiarity with appraisal frameworks such as the Green Book or WebTAG
- Cost benefit analysis, benefit cost ratios, or economic impact assessment
- Revenue, fiscal or funding and financing modelling
- Experience in regulated sectors such as transport, aviation, water, energy or financial services
- Experience serving clients in a professional services context
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The role offers a competitive salary, with the opportunity to benefit from the success of the firm, and 25 days' holiday a year.
The role is based in our London office near Oxford Circus. We are a small team and we work best in the room together, so we expect most of the working week to be spent in the office, but with a high degree of flexibility. Some projects involve working from client premises, and occasional UK travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
HOW TO APPLY
Send a CV and a short covering note explaining why this role interests you to ollie.niddrie@prysm-global.com.
