The macroeconomics team at Nomura is compact – the Chief European Economist is supported by another economist; in addition there are two FX strategists. The small nature of the team would give the candidate a great deal of opportunity to grow into a wide-ranging role covering European macroeconomics (primarily euro area and UK, but Switzerland and Scandinavia too), reporting to the Chief European Economist.
Role Description
- The ideal candidate will cover European macroeconomics and central banks, focused on the euro area and big four economies – Germany, France, Italy, Spain – the UK, Switzerland, Sweden and Norway.
- Producing thematic research pieces, calling the direction of central bank policy decisions as well as regularly updating their models of GDP and inflation forecasts.
- The candidate will be required to update clients and internal sales/traders on what the latest news means for their policy calls and the risks to the view ahead.
- While primary focus would be on the euro area and UK, the candidate might be expected to spend some time covering Switzerland, Sweden and Norway, albeit to a lesser degree.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required
- Experience of covering European economies and central banks from a macroeconomic perspective.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience ideal. Degree in economics/statistics/finance.
