Aviation, Maritime and Borders Analysis Division is a multi-profession analytical hub providing a full suite of analysis services to Aviation and Maritime policy Directorates. It is a cohesive team with a strong ethos of multi-profession analysis and close joint working with policy professionals to deliver evidence-based robust policy outcomes. AMBA is led by a leadership team of two Deputy Directors and six Grade 6 team leaders.

Job description
This team leader role is responsible for all analysis supporting aviation environment policy, including aviation decarbonisation, noise and air quality. It’s a fascinating and high-profile area in which to work as delivering greener transport is a key ministerial priority.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a friendly and supportive analysis division leading a dedicated and skilled team underpinning nationally important policy decisions with good evidence.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- Lead analytical support to all aspects of aviation environment policy:
- Build and maintain close relationships with the senior leaders of the aviation environment policy team to understand their objectives and work plans and ensure that analysis is integrated into those.
- Oversee your team’s work plans, prioritising well to ensure that analytical resources are used to achieve greatest impact.
- Be responsible for the delivery of your team’s agreed outputs, ensuring they are on time and fit for purpose adhering to analytical quality assurance standards.
- Balance delivery of outputs in the short term with investing in your team’s capability to provide outputs policy teams will need in future.
Be an analytical leader within DfT:
- As part of the senior cadre of analysts with DfT, be active in ensuring the health of the function.
- This post holder will ensure that analysis is well-integrated into policy development providing the right evidence at the right time and quality to achieve DfT’s objectives.
Person specification
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following attributes:
- Extensive experience of delivering analytical programmes of work to support policy development. Being comfortable with designing and overseeing programmes of work in dynamic environments working closely with stakeholders. A track record of delivery.
- Knowledge of the decarbonisation policy environment. Able to bring to bear a full range of analysis capabilities to add value to complex environmental policy challenges.
- Extensive experience of leading teams of analysts. An excellent leader of people, empowering teams to deliver to their full potential in the short term and preparing them for future challenges.
You must be a full member of the Government Economic Service (GES) OR eligible to join (Membership - Government Economic Service - GOV.UK).
