Te āheinga / The opportunity

This is a great opportunity to step into a meaningful role where you'll have the opportunity to work with our Economist to support decision making in the areas of economic development and environmental management. This position is full time, fixed term for 12 months covering a period of parental leave and is anticipated to start 2 February 2026.

You'll conduct in-depth analysis, interpret economic trends, and assess policy impacts across a range of projects—from resource management to economic development initiatives. Whether you're integrating economic thinking into council programmes, managing funded projects, or helping guide regional partnerships like Northland Inc, your work will be valued and your development encouraged. If you're ready to build experience in a collaborative environment and help deliver smart, sustainable outcomes for the region, we’d love to hear from you.

He Kōrero Mōu / About You

We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, enjoys working in a close-knit team, and brings a thoughtful, analytical approach to their work. You’ll have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as economics, environmental economics, or policy development, and be confident using Microsoft applications like Word, Excel and Outlook. GIS capability would be a bonus.

You’ll have experience conducting economic research, analysing data, and presenting findings with clear conclusions and recommendations. Familiarity with economic appraisal tools—such as cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria analysis—is important, as is your ability to build strong working relationships across a diverse range of people.

Ko te aha ngā painga o te mahi kei konei? / What are the benefits of working here?

Just as you care about your community and environment, NRC cares about you and your wellbeing. Our organisation celebrates collective efforts and achievements and recognises every individual for their contributions and dedication to their mahi.
