We are looking for a Senior Economist to join St Helena Treasury. St Helena Island is an aid dependent self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom situated in the sub-tropics in the South Atlantic between South America and South Africa.

Offering sound analysis and support, your role will be varied and require a range of quantitative, technical, and non-technical skills, with potential to learn and expand on many working areas of economics. You will provide macroeconomic and quantitative analysis to the Treasury including inflation and revenue forecasts, which feed into the government’ annual budgeting process. You will identify and implement international best practice in areas such as fiscal transparency and competition policy.

You should be capable of providing analytical support to develop of the financial services sector on St Helena and develop business cases for the Capital Programme projects to UK Treasury Green Book (or equivalent) standard. You will be expected to provide analytical support to other portfolios across a range of policy issues.

You should be comfortable providing written and oral briefings on the St Helena economy to a range of audiences including ministers and the public service, international delegations and bodies, and the community generally (including via the media).

Holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, or related field, you have experience undertaking economic analysis, policy development or implementation in one or more of the following areas: macroeconomic forecasting; developing project appraisals; financial economics, banking and prudential regulation, or tax. You should be adept at good quality report writing and have experience analysing and interpreting information, with the ability to define and use analytics to support decision-making. Experience in a treasury or ministry of finance context would highly value in this role.

As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £40k per annum, depending on experience and qualifications

  • Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary
  • Annual Leave of 30 days per annum, plus Public Holidays
